POSITION SUMMARY

Research In Motion, maker of the award-winning suite of BlackBerry® smartphones and the BlackBerry® wireless handheld solution, is seeking to further expand its world-class research and development team with the best and brightest talent. Specifically, we have an opening for a Database Development Engineer in our BlackBerry® Internet Service, the largest and fastest-growing segment in the world of BlackBerry®. Rest assured, this is not standard-issue, cookie-cutter, write-SQL-in-a-sandbox type of database development work that you will encounter elsewhere. RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate's responsibilities will include:
• Feasibility assessments
• Analysis
• Data-modeling
• Design and implementation of stored procedures
• Writing ad-hoc queries and mini-reports
• Generating scripts that automate complex tasks and/or tweak data
• Managing a suite of scheduled reports that provide insight into the explosive growth that we are experiencing
• Performing forensic data analyses of data from our high-throughput OLTP databases
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
• B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, or related experience
• 1 consecutive year of "hands on" experience with Oracle (PL/SQL) within the past 3 years is required
• 3-5 years of experience with a major relational database management system (Oracle is strongly preferred; Sybase, MS SQL Server, MySQL will be considered)
• Solid understanding of fundamental relational database concepts
• Proficiency in PL/SQL stored procedures
• Competence in employing sound software engineering practices
• A passion and enthusiasm for database technology
• Willingness to learn
• Commitment to excellence
ADDITIONAL ASSETS
• Experience with Perl (or a comparable scripting language) is a definite plus
